Things to Do Before a Storm to Prevent Roof Damage

Leaks coming from your roof are difficult to deal with in the midst of a storm. You can’t really go outside to patch them up. Before this happens to you, the local roofing experts of Diamond Roofing Specialists, Inc. have compiled a list of things you can do to prevent roof damage during a storm.

  • Clean your gutters. You might not give your gutters much thought, but they are as integral as the roof above your home. To make sure they perform their function of channeling water runoff away from your property, make sure they’re clean and clog-free.
  • Invest in wind-resistant roofing materials. Are you planning to replace your roof soon? Consider roofing materials that are capable of withstanding hurricane-force winds. Make sure you work with a roofing company that offers such products and installs them professionally.
  • Trim the tree branches near your home. While trees add beauty and appeal to your home’s landscaping, you’ll want to make sure their branches don’t grow near your home. Strong winds cause the branches to brush against the roof, dislodging the granules and even some of the shingles. Be sure to have trees trimmed back a few feet to prevent leaves and twigs from collecting on your roof and gutters.
  • Schedule maintenance. The best way you can protect your roofing system from the threat of storms is by having professionals conduct regular maintenance. Through their expertise and skills, roofers can make sure your investment remains intact and that minor issues are addressed before they can grow worse.
